How do you select the best hair color for your skin tone?
Determine the underlying pigments of your skin to select the best hair color for you skin tone. In general, people with cool undertones in their skin look best with a cool hair color, and those with warm undertones in their skin look better with a warm hair color.
One way to determine the underlying pigments of your skin, is to hold a yellow and red piece of paper and then a white, green, silver and blue piece of paper against your clean face. If your skin looks more flattering with the yellow and red paper test, then you most likely have warm undertones in your skin. If your skin looks more flattering with the green, blue, silver and white paper test, then you most likely have cool undertones in your skin. A Hair technician at Artisan Salon Landpark can tell you what skin tone you are.
Contrast between skin color and hair color is important, which is why darker skin tones should stay away from medium browns and dark blondes. If you have cool undertones, then shiny raven-wing blacks, cool ash browns and cool blonde hair colors look best. Choose wheat, honey, taupe or ash shade highlights. If you have warm undertones then warm browns, chestnuts and rich golden brown hair colors look best. Highlights such as golden blondes and copper streaks add more warm tones to your hair. Sometimes, cool hair colors work well with warm undertones, and vice versa. Check with our makeup or skin care professional Christy.
